Bowscar - from the south on the old A6  near Milestone House -  28 January 1977

“Don’t look back” - but this was the last photo of the area on leaving Kitchenhill in early 1977.

Bowscar is a small locality just north of Penrith wedged between better known hamlets & villages such as Catterlen & Plumpton as well as Penrith itself.

For many it manifests itself in The Stoneybeck pub on the old A6. This was a traditional wayside inn in the 1970’s but now appears to be a popular place for meals.

It had decent beer and a warm open fire during our stay at Kitchenhill and provided which was very welcome on cold winters evenings - and when we had visitors.

The walk home was especially rewarding on a clear winters night.
