25 Rudyard Avenue in August 2008

No 25 is the left hand property and the style and brickwork of the front door arch can be recognised in a number of photographs.

Basic Map VMD

25 Rudyard Avenue was occupied from new in the 1930’s through to November 1965, when the family moved to Holyhead in Anglesey.  It was the home of Clement and Dorothy Alice Grundy and her family and was a centre of family activity in the 1950’s and early 60’s.

The house enjoyed an open aspect to the rear - initially across to the Rochdale Canal. Shortly after moving in Clement Grundy was enlisted early in World War II but was returned home and invalided out in 1940 due to illness and died later that year.

The marriages of the three Grundy children in 1950, ‘53 and ‘55 - led to several grandchildren being born at 25 Rudyard Avenue.

The growing family somehow found space within the same house but inevitably they had to move out and find their own place to live.

Dorothy Alice Grundy and Alwyn and George Lomas and family left in November 1965 to live in North Wales.
